In certain wild and mountainous parts of Madagascar, such as Andringitra National Park in the south, large groups of ring-tailed lemurs actually live up in the mountains, above the seasonal frost line, and spectacular scenes of the lemurs bounding up, and jumping between, sheer rock faces and crevices are common. But this is not one of those places nor one of those lemurs. It’s our 24 year old male Aristides pausing to rest on the rocky slope which leads up to NHE 3, before climbing, with obviously aching joints, to join Sosiphanes and Lilah in a North Carolina piney forest. Do lemurs ever dream of their ancestor’s wild lives in Madagascar?
