You are probably familiar with the web's famous grumpy cat, now meet 1.5 year old Cholula, the DLC's grumpy mouse lemur! Apparently Cholula is usually a lot less grumpy looking and only looks this unhappy because he was briefly introduced today to our small white photo tent which he apparently did not like it at all. The whole exercise was done to get a photo of Cholula posing next to (or preferably on!) a lovely Bonsai tree that someone gifted the Lemur Center via Amazon a few weeks ago. The gift tree arrived with no acknowledgements of who sent it, so DLC staff thought it would be a good idea to post a Bonsai/mouse lemur photo to thank the donor and ask if they would care to identify themselves. However, Cholula had other ideas: at only one point during the ten minute photo session did he approach the tree, and then he appeared horrified at its sudden proximity and did not hesitate to jump away as quickly as possible.Cholula was born on 7th of July 2016 (to dam Sriracha and sire Heinz) into a litter of male triplets. He had lived happily with his brothers until just yesterday when they finally had to be separated due to fighting (perhaps this is another reason Cholula looked grumpy today).Mouse lemurs have now pretty much fully emerged from their torpor season, and the start of Microcebus breeding season is right around the corner (42 % of mouse lemur breeding occurs in April)!
