Sorry for yet another Bertha mirror photo, but she is absolutely hilarious. She has a new portable (and unbreakable of course) mirror that she carries around her enclosure. I borrowed it overnight to clean it and when I returned it this morning she could not get enough mirror time. One of her favorite things to do is place it on top of her head and gaze upwards at her reflection. Tech Becca thinks that Bertha might not really understand what she is seeing and might think it is a window, which would explain why she sometimes starts climbing upwards "towards" the mirror while she is holding it over her head (trying to literally go through the looking glass?). Data Manager Sarah thinks she might be using the mirror to check out the people behind her. But who knows what is going on in the mind of this adorably goofy sifaka? Today after I handed the mirror to Bertha, the Vet Department, who were re-checking a no longer ailing lemur next door, all gathered around Bertha's enclosure to witness her hilarious mirror shenanigans. Perhaps the tour department should consider offering Magical Mirror Tours featuring Bertha and her favorite toy?
